Distribution and Royalties Accountant

Description

Reporting to the VP, Corporate Finance, the Distribution and Royalties Accountant is responsible for the preparation and reporting on licensing and distribution agreements to management and third-party stakeholders on all sales. The role will also be required to ensure the royalties systems is up to date, create and provide analysis on monthly and quarterly royalty statements.

The role requires detailed reconciliations of costs and revenues to the general ledger so attention to detail and strong Excel skills is essential. In addition, the role requires distribution of quarterly reporting packages to stakeholders and key contributors. Good written and oral communication skills are required, plus an ability to work calmly under pressure, as well as being organized and able to prioritize workload.

The role will work closely with the Business Affairs department, as well as supporting other members of the Finance team. You may also be required to carry out ad-hoc reporting duties as requested by the VP, Corporate Finance.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Upkeep of sales/distribution company Quickbooks accounts including classification of sales and costs, allocations, reconciliation and running financial reports
• Ensure the royalties system is up to date; New contracts added, contract rules set up, all relevant sales reported, and payments reconciled.
• Run and send out royalty reporting to stakeholders and key contributors (i.e.ACTRA, equity and profit participation royalty reports).
• Review and process Royalty / Advance invoices.
• Provide profit share statements and various profit analysis on a monthly/annual/ad-hoc basis.
• Complete all administration of contract database and tracking agreements and payments.
• Ensure all relevant Licensor sales are reported correctly within the specific royalty clause.
• Managing accounts payable/receivable for sales/distribution contracts.
• Reconciling intercompany accounts
• Preparing invoices based on reports.
• Providing cash flow/ investment forecast analysis
• Preparing month end accruals, journal entries, reporting and variance analysis including HST returns.
• Supporting and assisting in the close-out of internal audits

Skills and Qualifications

• 3 years of experience working in distribution and royalties using financial accounting practices
• Ability to interpret licensing and distribution agreements regarding revenue recognition and reporting expectations.
• Experience in media and/or TV production
• Strong knowledge of Excel and Quickbooks
• Proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Effective communication skills and people skills
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
• Able to work effectively on their own and in a team environment.
• Self-motivated and willing to take initiative.
